Selecting the right grade is critical for performance. Grade 304 is the standard '18/8' stainless steel, ideal for general use and excellent corrosion resistance in non-marine environments. For high-salinity or chemical processing environments, Grade 316 is mandatory due to its molybdenum content which prevents pitting. If the project involves heavy welding, specify 304L or 316L (Low Carbon) to prevent carbide precipitation. For high-strength mechanical parts, consider Grade 410 or 420, which are martensitic and heat-treatable.
