Spectacle frames manufacturers

When sourcing spectacle frames, material choice directly impacts durability and comfort. Acetate (Cellulose Acetate) is preferred for premium eyewear due to its deep gloss and hypoallergenic properties. For lightweight performance, Titanium or Beta-Titanium is essential as it offers high strength-to-weight ratios and corrosion resistance. For budget-friendly or sports lines, TR-90 (Thermoplastic Polyamide) is the industry standard for its extreme flexibility and impact resistance.

Buyers must ensure products meet ISO 12870 standards, which govern fundamental requirements for unglazed spectacle frames. Key technical checks include bridge width, temple length, and lens groove depth to ensure compatibility with standard lens edging machines. Additionally, verify the quality of hinges (e.g., OBE or Comotec), ensuring they pass a minimum of 20,000 cycle opening/closing tests without loosening.

Spectacle frames are classified as medical devices in many regions. For the EU market, CE marking and compliance with the Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745) are mandatory. For the US market, FDA registration is required for both the manufacturer and the initial importer. Furthermore, ensure materials pass Nickel Release tests (EN 16128) to prevent allergic reactions, which is a critical safety requirement for metal frames.

Focus on the nose pad design and weight distribution. For Asian markets, 'Asian Fit' frames with deeper nose bridges are necessary. For global distribution, adjustable nose pads are preferred. The temple tips should be ergonomically curved to prevent pressure points behind the ears. Requesting 3D design files (CAD/STP) or physical samples is vital to assess the 'wrap angle' and 'pantoscopic tilt' for optical accuracy.

The primary risk is material substitution, where a supplier might use low-grade plastics instead of genuine Italian acetate. To mitigate this, use third-party inspection services to conduct 'burn tests' or lab analysis. Another risk is intellectual property (IP) infringement; ensure the designs do not violate existing patents or trademarks of global brands to avoid customs seizures.

Focus on MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) flexibility for different SKUs. While a supplier may require 300 pieces per style, you can often negotiate 100 pieces per color if the total order volume is high. Always ask for 'Gold Member' or 'Audited Supplier' reports on Made-in-China.com to verify factory capacity and export history. Requesting a unit price breakdown (frame cost vs. packaging cost) can help identify areas for cost optimization.

Spectacle frames are prone to deformation under pressure. Insist on individual polybags and protective sleeves for each frame, packed into reinforced 5-layer corrugated master cartons. For high-value titanium frames, air freight is recommended to reduce transit time and handling risks. Ensure the commercial invoice clearly states the HS Code (typically 9003.11 or 9003.19) to avoid customs delays.

Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure payment is only released after the buyer confirms receipt and quality. Never wire full payments upfront to personal bank accounts; use official corporate accounts and consider a 30% deposit / 70% balance structure after a successful pre-shipment inspection (PSI).
