Used stretcher manufacturers

When sourcing used stretchers, you must prioritize structural integrity and mechanical functionality. Key specifications include the load-bearing capacity (typically 250kg or more), the hydraulic or electric lifting mechanism smoothness, and the locking reliability of the casters. Ensure the Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg positions function without resistance. For electric models, verify the battery health and motor insulation to prevent electrical hazards.

Medical equipment must adhere to strict safety standards. Even for used items, they should ideally have originally met ISO 13485 (Medical devices — Quality management systems) and CE marking (EU) or FDA registration (USA). It is crucial to request the original manufacturer's data plate and any refurbishment certification that proves the device has been recalibrated to meet IEC 60601-1 safety standards for medical electrical equipment.

The mattress surface must be antimicrobial, waterproof, and flame-retardant (e.g., BS 7177 compliance). Inspect for any cracks in the ABS plastic shrouds or rust on the powder-coated steel or aluminum frames, as these areas can harbor pathogens. Ensure the unit is compatible with hospital-grade disinfectants and that all seams are heat-sealed rather than stitched to prevent fluid ingress.

The choice depends on the environment: Emergency Room (ER) stretchers require X-ray translucent platforms and oxygen tank holders; Ambulance stretchers must have compatible loading systems and safety locks for vehicle mounting; and Transport stretchers focus on maneuverability and lightweight frames. Always confirm if the used unit includes collapsible side rails and IV poles as these are essential for patient safety during transit.

The biggest risk is regulatory non-compliance at customs. Many countries have strict bans or specific licensing requirements for 'used' or 'refurbished' medical devices. You must verify the HS Code (typically 9402.90) and check your local import regulations. Another risk is shipping damage; since these are heavy mechanical items, improper crating can lead to hydraulic leaks or frame misalignment.

Focus on transparency and documentation. Ask the supplier for a video demonstration of the specific unit you are buying, showing all moving parts in action. Negotiate for a third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by agencies like SGS or Intertek. Demand a warranty period (at least 6-12 months) even for used goods, and ensure the contract specifies that the refurbishment process followed OEM guidelines.

Use Secured Trading Services or Escrow payments to ensure funds are only released upon confirmation of receipt and inspection. For shipping, choose FOB (Free On Board) to maintain control over the freight forwarder, and insist on wooden crate packaging with shock-absorption materials. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Decontamination, which is often required by international carriers to prove the equipment is biologically safe for transport.
